Why This Movement Matters
Minnesota is home to one of the largest Somali communities outside Somalia, shaping our state through business, arts, education, and leadership. Yet many still face misunderstanding and discrimination. Somali Neighbors exists to show visible support and say clearly: you belong here.
FAQ
What is Somali Neighbors?
Somali Neighbors is a community-rooted initiative that promotes visible solidarity, belonging, and safety through everyday actions, presence, and connection.
Who is behind Somali Neighbors?
Somali Neighbors is led by people from within the community, working in coordination with trusted local organizations, faith leaders, and advocates across Minnesota.
Are you affiliated with specific organizations or leaders?
Our work has included engagement and participation from public officials, faith leaders, civil rights task forces, and community initiatives. These relationships reflect shared values and dialogue, not formal endorsement, partnership, or financial involvement.
Is Somali Neighbors a nonprofit or political organization?
No. Somali Neighbors is an independent, commerce-backed initiative. We are not a nonprofit, PAC, or political organization.
Where does the money go?
Funds generated through Somali Neighbors are used to sustain operations, fairly compensate contributors, support community events, and contribute a portion of profits to youth-focused organizations and initiatives that serve and support young people in our communities.
How are youth organizations selected?
Youth-focused organizations are identified through community relationships and ongoing dialogue, with an emphasis on programs that support safety, education, wellness, and opportunity.
Why use commerce instead of donations alone?
Commerce allows this effort to be sustainable and scalable. One-time gestures fade. Visible, everyday solidarity lasts.
How can individuals or organizations get involved?
People can participate by showing up, engaging in community events, and supporting visible solidarity efforts. Organizations and leaders interested in community coordination are encouraged to reach out.
